The College of Geosciences is dedicated to excellence in teaching, research and outreach. We focus on the physical, biological and human systems of our planet and the ways in which they interact. We investigate the forces which shape the past, present and future of the solid earth, the oceans, the atmosphere, the biosphere and human cultures and societies. We work with society to develop, sustain and enhance our planet's resources within the bounds of responsible environmental stewardship. We address the needs of the people of Texas, the nation, and the world in rising to the challenge posed by a changing global environment.

• Our research programs make scholarly contributions to understanding the physical, biological and human forces that control our global earth system. We use knowledge of the past and present to predict future changes.

• Our education programs introduce the general university student to the geosciences as part of informed citizenship, provide specialized training for those entering applied science careers, and train teachers, scholars and researchers in the geosciences.

• Our engagement programs provide information, advice and cooperative efforts to society to enhance the economic well-being, health and intellectual growth in the context of a rapidly changing world.
